I love getting away from everyday stress and always look forward to vacations. It’s a time to relax and release some tension. That’s why it’s so easy to get into lounge mode and eat whatever you want when you’re away from the routine. I have found some great tips to keeping away from these habits, and I have also helped my family to stay fit wherever we go just by incorporating them into the trip plans. These tips may be able to help you on your vacation, and if you’re anything like me, it’s always better to plan your diet before you go.
Play Silly Games
I love creating silly games with my kids while we’re on vacation. We go on scavenger hunts, explore local parks and just invent our own cardio activities that don’t even feel like exercise. I make sure to leave some room open in the schedule to fit this in because it’s important that in between relaxing and having fun, you also get a good work out.
Drink Water Every Day
Whether going on vacation with friends or family, there are a lot of temptations when it comes to unhealthy drinks. Soft drinks, alcohol and unnatural juices can make an appearance any time you don’t have something else on hand or even when you’re just feeling like you want to splurge. I’ve been able to cut back on splurging by buying water and bringing it with my family wherever we travel. It actually saves a lot of money and lasts throughout the whole trip if I buy a case. We don’t have to stop at gas stations or get room service to bring us drinks because we have our own.
Be Cool at Buffets
The food can get pretty enticing at an all-you-can-eat buffet. One trick that I use is to only fill up one plate and to at least let myself have a few treats on that plate as well. If I go a little overboard, I know that I will eat mostly vegetables and lighter meals the next day to make up for it.
Find Healthy Hotels
I also like to pick hotels with healthier breakfast options. I look at room service menus and check out their restaurants just to see if they have lighter fare ideas because sometimes you really just want to lounge by the pool and grab something at the hotel. In addition, it’s always great when a hotel has a fitness area. We booked a hotel with a great gym for our upcoming trip to Orlando. With so many places to stay, this proved to be quite difficult, however, there are resources out there that can be a huge help.
Going on vacation is better when you know what you’re going to do for your health. I have found that it certainly helps to plan out my fitness goals beforehand.
